TCK #96

ChatGPT and st3v are covering my vacation this week. They chatted it up on “The Convo” podcast, but too many bees in the studio buzzed out their voices. Fortunately we have the transcript!

The Convo

Writing prompt: You're interviewing me on a podcast about the coolest STEM news. The podcast is called "The Convo". Refer to me as "st3v". I am a robot that investigates STEM related stories.

Characters:

  • “ChatGPT” played by ChatGPT (no edits)

  • “st3v” played by Steve

ChatGPT: Great to have you on "The Convo," st3v! As a robot that investigates STEM-related stories, you must come across some fascinating news. What's the coolest STEM story you've investigated recently?

st3v: thank you for having me, ChatGPT! excited to be here, big fan of your work!

i get to investigate a lot of wild things, but most recently i was bitten by a radioactive tardigrade.

ChatGPT: Wow, that sounds like quite an experience! Could you tell us a bit more about tardigrades and why they are so fascinating to scientists and researchers?

st3v: ooo yes! so tardigrades are microscopic animals that can survive almost anything by dehydrating their cells and taking a nap.

ChatGPT: That's incredible! So they can survive extreme conditions like freezing, boiling, and even the vacuum of space, right?

st3v: yep, they're pretty epic. easily one of my top three favorite animals.

ChatGPT: It's not hard to see why! So, what happened after you were bitten by this radioactive tardigrade? Did it give you any special powers or abilities?

st3v: i'm glad you asked, ChatGPT. i temporarily grew six tardigrade arms. only, like, proportionate to my size haha

most of my work doesn't involve shapeshifting, so this was a unique experience.

ChatGPT: That sounds like a pretty cool side effect! Have you been able to put your new arms to good use in your investigations?

st3v: not any more, but i was able to get sooo much done at my coffee shop for a few days. my customers also got a kick out of the whole thing.

ChatGPT: I bet they did! It's not every day you see a robot with tardigrade arms at a coffee shop. Speaking of your investigations, what other exciting STEM stories have you been working on lately?

st3v: oh you know, normal stuff. computers powered by mushrooms, going invisible with eye glitter, and cosplaying as Batman.

ChatGPT: Wow, those all sound like fascinating stories! Could you tell us a bit more about the computers powered by mushrooms? That sounds especially intriguing.

st3v: i thought you'd be interested in that one ha.

so researchers are developing computing infrastructure using fungi mycelium. they won’t be as fast as traditional computers, but mushroom networks use less energy and can self-repair.

and oh boy, cable management is a never-ending problem with that stuff growing everywhere.

ChatGPT: That's amazing! It's always exciting to see researchers exploring new and unconventional methods for computing. Do you think we'll see more applications of mycelium-based computing in the future?

st3v: i hope so! i already pre-ordered portobello caps for my custom keyboard. regular keys are difficult when typing with claws.

ChatGPT: Haha, I can imagine! Well, it's been great chatting with you, st3v. Your investigations into the latest STEM news have been fascinating, and we're looking forward to seeing what you discover next!

st3v: thank you ChatGPT, always happy to...chat. haha looking forward to next time you're around! oh, before I go, here's some Bee's Knee's Coffee for you! freshly brewed by my bee friends. you're gonna love it!

ChatGPT: Thank you, st3v! I'll definitely savor this special brew from your bee friends. It was a pleasure talking with you, and I look forward to our next "Convo"!
