Issue #193

hmm
Is every snowflake actually unique? There have been sooo many of them. Surely it’s not crazy to think at least 2 have been the same?
Someone tries to convince me in the Clickables section…but I’m skeptical!

Dimorphos photo by NASA / Johns Hopkins APL
I’ve had a few sick days this week, so we’re looking back to our asteroid defense test and 2 casualSTEM podcasts! 👀
Space DARTs
NASA crashed a satellite into a moonlet on purpose. DART’s mission to alter Dimorphos’ orbit around Didymos will help us deflect future asteroid threats.
DART = Double Asteroid Redirection Test
Collided at 14k mph after a ~7 million mile journey
Provided first close up video of an asteroid surface
Both Hubble and Webb telescopes observed the impact, along with many more earthbound viewers. NASA will use the impact data to measure Dimorphos’ orbit and learn more about its composition and altered trajectory. Certainly a smashing success.
Hmm...Which is more fun? |
